Volunteer Roles

Adult Roles

Assisting People and Communities (APAC)
Description
This is a befriending service for adults (18 years +) who may be isolated and experiencing a range of problems in relation to their home, community or lifestyle.
Duration
6 months - 1 year
Frequency
Normally 2 hours per week (can vary)
Location
All of Northern Ireland
Other
Driving is essential in rural areas. This role may be more suited to someone over 30 years old. Limited number of volunteering opportunities.

Youth Roles

Independent Visitor Scheme
Description
A befriending service for 10 -17 year olds in foster / residential care. This involves taking the young person out from their care placement on an activity. These activities are on a one-to-one basis with support from NIACRO.
Duration
Minimum of 1 year
Frequency
Every fortnight (evenings or weekends) for 2-3 hours
Location
Mainly Greater Belfast and South Eastern Health Trust areas

Independent Representation Scheme
Description
A rights / advocacy service for vulnerable young people aged between 11 and 18 years old in Lakewood Secure Care Centre, Bangor. This role involves visiting the centre with the IR Project Worker to listen to the concerns of young people and to advocate on their behalf.

Minimum of 1 year
Frequency
Once per month for 2-3 hours
