What is Access?

Access is a service for adults leaving prison who are assessed as medium to high risk. It aims to support people to develop their employability skills, particularly in relation to disclosure and work readiness. Access works closely with the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI) and is funded by PBNI until April 2016.

What does Access offer?

Access Employment Officers work with participants to improve their employability by delivering up to five interventions.

These can cover areas such as:

  • Building a CV
  • Applying for courses or jobs
  • Developing interview skills
  • Writing a disclosure statement

After this, the Employment Officer connects the participant to an appropriate next step – whether it’s another project, a training place or an employed position – and supports a smooth transition.

How can I access this service?

People are referred to Access by PBNI if they are:

  • Subject to Probation supervision in the community
  • Medium-high ACE risk assessed
  • Keen to improve their employability skills
