Kieran is Director of the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice in the School of Law, Queen's University. He was previously Information Officer at NIACRO from 1990 to 1995.
His research interests include prisons, prisoner reintegration, human rights, transitional justice, restorative justice, conflict resolution, and judges and lawyers. He has written and edited several books on criminology and criminal justice related issues as well as over 40 scholarly articles and book chapters. He is also an Executive member of a number of other voluntary organisations and is currently Vice Chair of the Committee on the Administration of Justice.
