Link-Up
Category: Working with Offenders and Ex-Prisoners
The Link-Up Adult Mentoring Project, part of the ReachOut programme, aims to help people to resettle in the community. Volunteers are trained as mentors to assist people with one-on-one support.
Mentors and participants are matched by the project worker, and both parties are actively encouraged to participate in this process. Link-Up provides people with a volunteer who can give support and guidance; help the participant to set and achieve goals; and be a positive influence.
The mentor can also support and encourage the participant to plan for employment and/or training, in line with their resettlement plan.
A unique aspect of this project is that we want people who have personal experience of the criminal justice system to apply to be a volunteer. Channelling this experience into the project as a Peer Mentor is rewarding and invaluable for both the participant and the volunteer.
