APAC: Assisting People and Communities
Category: Working with Offenders and Ex-Prisoners
APAC works to reduce anti-social and offending behaviour and helps people to deal with problems which may have led to difficulties with neighbours and the community.
APAC helps it service users deal with the complexities of day to day living; empowers them to make positive decisions and develop strategies to deal with the problems and crises that they face. and encourages self-assessment.
APAC Floating Support APAC Floating Support is funded by Supporting People (funding managed by the Housing Executive to support vulnerable people in the community). It is offered to people living in public or private housing who are having difficulty keeping their accommodation as a result of their anti-social or offending behaviour. As part of the project an APAC project worker meets with the participant to discuss the reasons for these difficulties and help plan a way forward. The project worker gives ongoing support and practical assistance to achieve this. This may include linking up with other NIACRO services and/or support services in the community. APAC also supports families. Examples of our support include:
APAC Mental Health In Greater Belfast, APAC Mental Health helps young adult offenders in the community who have mental health or emotional problems. It works to establish or re-establish links with the statutory mental health services and other services which can help. APAC helps clients to make and keep appointments and work towards agreed goals, while alsosupporting family members. The project helps participants to deal positively with difficulties in their lives and reduce their risk of re-offending. APAC Women APAC also offers specialised help to women in Greater Belfast, through the Probation Board’s Inspire Project. Women under probation supervision, or soon to leave prison, can access a wide range of mainstream services including those which are based in women’s centres in the community. NIACRO also links individual women with other services like Jobtrack, Family Links and the Advice Service. The project worker gives participants the personal support that helps build confidence and make changes in their lives. APAC RIO APAC RIO is an urban safety initiative involving the Housing Executive and Belfast City Council and supported by key criminal justice agencies. The RIO project is available for 17-21 year olds who are repeat offenders, serving short sentences in Hydebank Wood Young Offender’s Centre and being released back to the community without any statutory support. The project aims to prevent re-offending and is available in Greater Belfast. RIO provides a link between the participant and the community. The wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations which participate in the project are committed to working with the criminal justice agencies to address our service users’ needs and help them prepare for their return to the community. These agencies provide a range of services which support resettlement and help people make important changes in their lives. |
