James
Category: Jobtrack
James is a 34 year old male, who came to NIACRO’s Jobtrack programme as a self-referral in July 2008. Since 1988, James has had convictions for drug offences, fraud, violence, firearms possession and theft.
His background is typical of many offenders. James came from a socially-deprived area, was involved in gang culture and entered prison from a young age. However, unlike others, he decided he wanted to change his life and asked NIACRO to help him do so.
With his past experience, James felt he was well-placed to demonstrate the impact crime has on your life and that of your family and friends. This is especially beneficial, in order to reach young people in danger of offending.
James decided he would undertake an Access Diploma in Social Sciences, as a one-year learning programme. With NIACRO’s support, James worked very hard and regularly met his local Jobtrack team for advice and to enhance his employability skills.
Recently, he attained his results and achieved a pass of 73%. NIACRO are now working to arrange voluntary work to help build his learning skills and James is looking forward to discussing his future options with the Jobtrack team.
