NIHE Draft Homelessness Strategy

NIACRO has responded to the NI Housing Executive’s consultation on its draft homelessness strategy 2011 – 2016.
We based our response on our experience in working with offenders, ex-offenders and potential offenders in the community, including through our APAC programme. In our response, we welcome many aspects of the draft strategy but also call for sensitivity in the assessment process; a focus on the needs of the applicant rather than simply their eligibility; greater understanding of the often complex needs of vulnerable people and families; support and information for private sector and social housing landlords; and made the point that we know that homelessness presents the greatest challenge to ex-offenders resettling in the community.
